Virtual Fitting

Overview

Project Brief

Increasing User Experience through Virtual Reality & IoT Service

LG Fashion's clothes were priced on average between 200,000 to 300,000 KRW, which was relatively high in comparison to many other clothing brands in Korea. So, opening a package with excitement only to find unsatisfactory clothes was a highly unpleasant experience for online shoppers. Ensuring a good customer experience was thus crucial. By offering a virtual fitting service, we aimed to not only improve the online shopping experience but also reduce the number of returns, ultimately allowing customers to enjoy their shopping experience more.

Service structure Overview

STEP 1. Digitized Item Measurement Data and Created Users’ Virtual Avatars

My team collected the user's height and weight information and used this data to create a virtual avatar.
Then, we converted the precise measurements of items such as t-shirts and pants into digital data and visualized onto platform how these items would look on the avatar.

STEP 2. Enhancing virtual fitting results with purchase and return data

Our team successfully integrated customer fit preferences by utilizing purchase and return data, resulting in a 30% reduction in return rates for purchases made through virtual fitting.
However, my team aimed to further improve the accuracy in visualizing the desired fit for various fabrics, including thick winter fabrics and lightweight summer materials. To achieve this goal, I leveraged my undergraduate expertise in clothing textile engineering to calculate and visualize accurately based on fabric type.

STEP 3. Enhancing precision by incorporating material-specific flexibility and thickness information

MY FIT on LG Fashion

Being the pioneers, we introduced virtual fitting, the very first  among countless fashion platforms in the country. Subsequently, numerous platforms followed suit, leading to a complete disruption of South Korea's fashion paradigm.

Smart Mirror, IoT Product IFA Berlin, 2019

Collaborate with LG Electronics, Virtual Fitting was introduced at IFA Berlin, 2019

Subsequently, in our quest to extend the virtual fitting experience into everyday life, we collaborated with LG Electronics to create an IoT virtual mirror.
By utilizing our refined user, material, and calculation models, we enabled a virtual fitting experience in everyday life, reducing the time spent on trying on clothes and simultaneously providing an enjoyable experience.

Smart Mirror, IoT Product CES 2020

Collaborate with LG Electronics, Virtual Fitting was introduced at CES, Las Vegas, 2020

Next year, my team developed the virtual fitting model into a platform.
By refining the calculation logic for virtual fitting, my team was able to expand the service offerings to include not only LG Fashion's clothing but also various other SKUs (Stock Keeping Units), broadening the scope of service delivery.
